Performances at the historic Fillmore made Santana a legendary live act and brought them to the attention of Columbia Records, who made the group one of the highest selling artists in rock. While the exact date of these recordings is unknown, this live performance predates the group's self-titled debut album on Columbia in 1969. Carlos and the boys are indeed in fine form, and performances such as these no doubt convinced Columbia to sign the group. This set is highlighted by an outstanding rendition of Evil Ways, a song that went on to be a standard in the annals of rock history, while other songs from this collection such as Soul Sacrifice and Jingo were part of Santana's first demos recordings at the famous Pacific Recording Studios in San Mateo, CA.
